Welcome to the Creative World of Pter Gillan

Hi, I'm Pter Gillan, and I am your online caricaturist! Excuse me if I stare at you too hard, I am just trying to figure out the best bits of your face to distort!
You need to have a weird sense of humor to be a caricaturist, because you have to imagine how you can draw a "funny portrait" that isn't realistic like a photograph but yet captures the likeness while distorting particular bits of a person's face

The human face is a wonderful part of the body - complex, changeable yet constantly recognisable; a window to character, moods and emotions. Your face represents you as a person in a way that say your elbow or your belly button can't do! It's no wonder that only a photograph of your face is required to identify you on a driving license or a passport.

In a caricature certain parts of the face are changed or distorted, usually in a fairly mild way, so that the likeness of the person is emphasised in certain prominent aspects. For example a big nose is made bigger, or small eyes are made smaller, a round face is made rounder, a big smile is made broader, beautiful eyes are made more beautiful, and so on. The trick is in getting the true likeness of the person to shine through the distortion. It is when someone says "Wow that looks so much like him!" but at the same time accepts it is not exactly a photographic likeness!

My name is really Peter, but please call me Pter - I like that alternative spelling. There are two many Peters in the world, but just one Pter as far as I know!
I see it as a great honor for me to be able to take liberties with something as important as your face and produce a work of art that hopefully brings a smile to your face when you see the finished result!

One last thing - a caricature is not exactly the same as a cartoon. Caricatures are much more detailed and use shading to convey the three dimensional nature of the face, unlike a cartoon which tends to have flat shapes and fairly simple outlines and not too much detail or shading.
So it does take quite a lot of time to draw a caricature, but I am sure you will agree the results are worth it!
